Our Islamic Cairo Food Tour is the perfect way to get started with this vivid Medieval city. This tour is for you if you like food and culture. You will learn about Egyptian cuisine, its history, and cultural importance while taking in the streets of Islamic Cairo. If you’re planning a visit to Egypt, come walk around Islamic Cairo with us and taste food and drinks at more than eight stops.

Meeting Point:

We will meet within Islamic Cairo, the exact location is to be provided after booking is complete. The tour ends on the corner at Sayedna Al-Hussein square, it’s a 15-minute walk from The Famous Museum of Islamic Art in Bab-El-Khaliq square.

Getting to the tour:

If you’re staying in the Downtown area, Abdeen Palace Square is 10-20 minutes away from any hotel in the region, walking to Abdeen Palace through the Downtown area and into the Islamic Cairo area is safe, fun, and the streets are still packed up to 2 AM.

If you’re staying outside Downtown, we would recommend getting an Uber or Careem ride to the meeting point.

Cairo traffic could be challenging, so we would always recommend adding some buffer time to your commute.

How to prepare:

We recommend wearing comfy (closed-toe) shoes to enjoy the walks with maximum comfort. Wearing clothes made with airy materials is best in the summer.

For the winter, layering is key as it can be warm in the afternoons but cold and windy in the evenings, especially on the rooftop bar we end the tour at.

On the day of the tour, we suggest skipping lunch and coming hungry, we promise you will be full, and if you’re not, your guide is always happy to offer you more food.

Staying safe:

We understand that safety comes to mind when it comes to visiting Cairo, and we want to tell you, from the perspective of a young, Egyptian couple, that Islamic Cairo is generally very safe even until 12-2 AM. People are very friendly and tourists are welcomed with open arms.

It’s wise to use common sense and stay alert as you would in any city around the world. (eg. avoiding cat-callers and street guys, being aware that pick-pocketing is more common in crowded places, etc.)

The scam most relevant in Cairo is the Helpful Stranger one. A firm “no” works perfectly in that case.

Finally, it’s good to know that crossing the streets in Cairo Squares can be done safely and easily via the pedestrian tunnels underground for free of course. Just ask your guide for one and he or she will be more than happy to locate the closest one for you.
